Liebster Award

It has been a month since I have posted, and I am truly sorry!  I know all of you, like me, are trying to keep your head above water while preparing your kiddos for testing.  This time of the year is so stressful, and I cannot wait until I can teach without the pressures of testing :)

I am completely honored and thrilled to say that I have been nominated for two blog awards!  Wow! Blogging is fairly new to me, so I am surprised and oh, so excited!  Jayme, who writes Trendy in Third has nominated me for the Liebster Award and Susan from Happiness is a Watermelon Shaped in 3rd Grade has nominated me for the Sunshine Award.  I am so touched that these two amazing educators have recognized my passion for teaching, and I hope that they know they inspire me each time I read their blogs on my feed.

I'll start with the Liebster Award, which is pretty lengthy, so I will share my Sunshine Award tomorrow :).  Here are the rules:

1) Link back to the blog that nominated me
2) Nominate 5 - 11 blogs with fewer than 200 followers
3) Answer the questions posted for me by my nominator
4) Share 11 random facts about myself
5) Contact my nominees and let them know that I nominated them

Here are my answers to Jayme's questions :)

1) What grade do you currently teach? Have you taught any other grades?
I teach third grade math, science, and social studies. I have only taught these 3rd grade subjects, and this is my seventh year.

2) What is your favorite thing about teaching? Least favorite?
My favorite thing about teaching is seeing my students get excited about learning. I love creating lessons that encourage critical thinking, collaboration, and inquiry. Seeing that light bulb go off is the most wonderful feeling, ever!  My least favorite part of teaching would have to be standardized testing. I. Hate. Testing. I feel it limits my teaching and don't even get me started on teacher accountability....

3) If your school was donated $25,000, what would you want your principal to purchase?
This is a tough question. I definitely think I would ask for more iPADS because they can extend learning in so many directions. One tablet in a classroom is just not enough. I also think I would push for some major field trips.  Nothing beats experiences. I would love for my students to travel to museums and various places to explore the world of education outside of the classroom. I am also a book nerd.  I would update every teacher's classroom library with fiction and non-fiction literature.

4) What is your favorite TV show?
Parenthood.  I just cannot get enough!  The first episode sucked me in, and I haven't missed an episode since thanks to my DVR.  I love the story line of a big family who struggles and celebrates together :)

5) If you could go back in time, what era would you choose to visit?
The 1920's have always been fascinating.  I think I could live the Great Gatsby lifestyle for a week or so :)

6) What is your school mascot?
   My elementary school's mascot is a Mustang!\

7) How many kids are in your class?
I have two classes because my school is departmentalized.  There are 22 students in each class, which are the smallest classes I have had in years!

8) What is your current obsession?
Hmmm...Steve Madden wedges...Baked White Cheddar Cheetos Puffs...Bruno Mars...and the idea of planning a vacation to Mexico.

9) What is your idea of relaxing after a crazy day of teaching?
Sitting outside on a 75 degree, sunny day while sipping on a class of red wine. Alone.  I love my husband, but sometimes, or many times, I need some peace and quiet when I get home from school.

10) Do you have iPads in your class?
I have one iPAD, but would love more!

11) Heels or flats?
Wedges.  Spring and Summer are wedge season, and I cannot get enough!  I think wedges are the perfect shoe because they offer support while allowing you to pull off a dressy or casual look.

Alright, and now for 11 random facts about myself.  Hmmm, this is tough.

1. I love washing my face at the end of the day. I think it is the absolute best feeling . You will NEVER catch me going to bed without a good face cleanse no matter how tired I may be!
2. I love Peyton Manning.
3. I bake much better than I cook. Just ask my husband.
4. I am a girly, girl all the way. Give me pink and purple, flowers, dresses, lipstick, and bubble baths any day :)
